To Meet The Demand

Companies that design new products and lists for more designing often take the path of the prototype. The prototype could basically be of any material, but distinctively plastic has a major demand in prototyping. Another reason behind this is precision and low cost feature as because, precision is very vital in developing and producing new products. But, in this world of competition and fast growth, the companies also try to finish the production at a low cost. The plastic prototype requires the employee to have detailed 2D and 3D knowledge of the design. Not only 2D and 3D but also the translation of the specialized CNC Milling is also needed to be understood and executed by the employee. These are few fast moving mechanisms that are used by the companies in order to have a major productivity at a shorter time and at a low cost. The only reason to have these technologies is to lower down the massive mistakes that could be possible if done by humans. The producers have an idea that sooner the problem is ignored sooner the company would be in greater profit. The CNC specialists also have a huge demand when coming to prototyping.

Essentialities required

A good quality prototype can only be executed by an experienced prototype. Thus, knowledge of basic methods is needed to serve the company best. These methods include:
  • Machining
  • Soft steel tools
  • Fused deposition modeling (FDMs)
  • PolyJet3D printed protyping
With the help of the computer, numerical system the errors can be spotted out at an early stage that helps the company to grow faster and produce majority of the demand.

Understanding The Technical Process Of Injection Molding

Defining the process of plastic injection molding; it is that process whereby the molten plastic is forced into a mold cavity which upon being cooled with air pressure successfully ejects the finished plastic product. Such type of plastic molding is extensively used for production of goods ranging from tanks, water bottles, bottle caps, auto parts, musical instruments and their parts and many others. Talking about the history of the plastic manufacturing process; the first injection molding equipment or machine was built during the 1930s, however not everyone is aware of the manufacturing steps. Here is a brief detail about the 6 step manufacturing process of injection molding;
  • Clamping
Among the three parts of the molding machine; clamping area is responsible for holding the two halves of the injection mold in a fixed position so that no molten plastic when poured into the mold gets split.
  • Injection
The second phase of the technique; during this process the molten plastic material is loaded carefully into the hopper which is attached at the top of the injection unit. Once the requisite material gets accumulated in the screw front; the process of injection starts.
  • Dwelling
The third step, dwelling phase exerts a certain pause to the injection process. Here the molten plastic is injected properly into the injection mold upon which pressure is exerted for the equal filling of the mold cavities.
  • Cooling
This phase deals with the cooling down of the molten plastic rendering its final solid form.
  • Mold opening
The clamping unit gets wide open, releasing the two separate mold halves.
  • Ejection
This phase deals with the use of an ejection rod and plate which assists in ejecting out the final finished product from the mold.
There are a number of plastic injection molding companies who assist in this easy to go process with their expertise and updated machines that helps them in deriving the finished product in the actual shape as the customers’ desire.

Fast And Efficient Manufacturing By Using Injection Molding Plastic

The advent of plastic in the path of modernization has changed the paradigm of the industries and finished goods. In fact the technology is upgrading day by day due to the application of new designing and manufacturing techniques. In case of plastic goods, 3D designing and molding has taken the industries to a new dimension where the goods are more durable and precise.

Aid of prototyping

Plastic goods are very useful in various industries because the desirable level of quality and quantity can be achieved under the constraint of cost of production. The material is cheap, but the products are up to the mark and can be mass produced efficiently. Whenever a new product has to be developed using plastic as raw material, the prototypes are first visualized physically by designing it using computer aided designing software (CAD) and then printing it on a 3D printer. The scale model helps us to realize the pros and cons of the design. This process can be done fast by availing rapid prototyping services offered by designing firms.

Aid of molding

Once the scale model is approved, a mold is prepared where the material will be introduced. This is the fastest manufacturing process of plastic goods with great precision. Injection moulding plastic types used in this process are thermosetting (phenolic and epoxy) and thermoplastic (nylon, polystyrene and polyethylene). The heated material is forcefully introduced inside the mold and cooled. The process yields large quantities of finished products in very less time and the efficiency is appreciable with a very less percentage of material loss. This easy process of manufacturing brings down the cost of the goods to a large extent.

Selecting Between Injection Molding And Compression Molding

Plastic molding is practiced by many industries and used for various different products. There are many plastic molding techniques used in industry. Each type of method is suitable for a specific type of product or part. There are advantages and disadvantages of using each of the methods. Most of the time people are confused between selecting injection molding method and compression molding method. Both of these methods are used for specific types of molding. We will briefly describe both of these methods of molding here and their specific usages.

Injection molding

In injection moulding plastic is heated in the heating chamber of the machine. This plastic is raw plastic that needs to be used for the product. This heated melted plastic is then pushed into the mold cavity to be filled. This plastic takes the shape of the mold and then the product is then easily prepared out of it. This method of molding is used for rapid prototyping services, toys, kitchen utensils, bottle, caps, etc. It can be easily used for mass production because of the quick product making process.

Compression molding

In the compression molding method a slug of hard plastic is pressed between two heated mold halves. In this method of molding vertical presses is used instead of horizontal presses that are used in injection molding and other molding methods. This is the difference between manufacturing processes in both the methods. Price of the products that are made with this method is moderate.

The difference between both the methods is with injection molding we can make more precise designs which is not possible to be made by compression method. Other than that compression molding is not as good as injection molding for bulk production.

Everything About Prototype

A prototype of a product is a type of sample. It is prepared before the mass production starts to check the efficiency and any loopholes in designs. Prototypes can be made one or two or until a final design is completely approved. Plastic prototype, steel or metal prototypes are famous for the work. Prototyping can be manually done or it can be done with the help of CNC milling. Both are far different from each other and have their own uses. A prototype of a product is important as it can help in identifying any design faults.

Benefits of prototype

A prototype of a product helps in understanding any designing faults. Prototypes of products help in removing issues if there are efficiency defects in products. Prototypes help in reducing mass production wastage. When a mass production is done without checking on prototypes it results in wastage. Checking deviations in designs with a prototype is the best way to understand efficacy. Prototypes are best to experiment with new designs and it helps in understanding different design's usability. The part of experimenting can be done with prototype.

Prototype in production process

A prototype of a product is the primary model of a product. Prototype is a first step of the production process. Any new model or a design has allowed for mass production only after the prototype is successfully approved by the Research and Development department approves the prototype. Prototypes are scientifically checked and developed keeping in mind the final use and final design in mind. There may be minor issues in prototypes this may result in a total ineffectiveness of a product. There may be many prototypes prepared before a single design is approved. Prototype helps in determining why a design is right why it is better than other designs. It would help in comparing many different designs for a single product.

Why Plastic Injection Molding Is Preferred Over Other Methods?

There are various methods of developing plastic products with help of molding. Some are traditional and other advanced technique is plastic mold injection. Plastic injection molding is easy and accurate and has various benefits of usage over traditional methods of molding. Traditional methods do work of molding, but plastic injection molding is more suitable for getting precise designs and high end products. Plastic injection molding is considered best custom injection molding method. Other methods are ineffective to give as good results as this method of work does. There are reasons why this method of molding is better liked and used in industry over other methods. Few of those reasons are as follows:

Decreases cost of production

Cost of production decreases with use of the plastic injection molding method. These machines are automated and require less or no labor to supervise them. Once the process is set and prototype is approved there is no need to continually check products. As the consistency would remain same as they are robotic. There would be no deviation in quality, making them accurate and precise. This factor is not possible with traditional methods of molding. Generally, traditional molding is manual and the quality of product changes from piece to piece. This is a major reason of increase in the cost of production.

Dual use of plastic possible

In plastic injection molding one can use duel plastics in the process. There is an option of co-injection molding. This enables the production to make use of two different types of raw material and produce a product. This is not possible with traditional molding method. The traditional molding method cannot use two different types of plastics to make a single product mold. This is another major drawback of traditional molding method.

Thus, Plastic Injection Molding is a preferred method over traditional methods.
